Purpose of Scholarship:

This scholarship is offered with the intention of helping and assisting persons who have a sincere interest in continuing their education and is a dependent of an active member or an active member of the Utah Chapter ICC. An active member is a governmental unit or agency engaged in administration, formation and enforcement of codes and ordinances relating to building construction.

Value: $1000.00

Funds awarded to scholarship recipients will be disbursed to applicant’s higher education facility of choice.

Committee Members

The current Utah Chapter ICC President shall appoint a chair and two additional members to serve on the scholarship committee. The committee shall be named at the annual ABM and education conference for the coming year. No member shall serve more than two consecutive years on the scholarship committee. A Utah Chapter ICC member is ineligible to serve on the committee if a member of their family is under consideration for a scholarship in the coming year. Members must be expected at the time of appointment to be present at the coming Utah Chapter ICC annual ABM and education conference. Should any member become ineligible or unable to serve during the appointed year, the president shall appoint a replacement.

The UCICC president may authorize reasonable expenses in order for the scholarship committee to meet as necessary prior to the UCICC annual conference to review current guidelines and transact any other business the president or committee deems necessary in the management of the scholarship fund.

All completed applications must be submitted to the committee chair on or before December 15 each year. It shall be the responsibility of the committee chair upon receipt of the applications to forward copies to the other members in a timely manor.

Management of Fund

It shall be the goal of the UCICC to first insure growth of the scholarship fund to the point that at least two scholarships can be awarded based on interest produced by the fund each year.

All special contributions made to the scholarship fund each year shall result in awards toward scholarships each year assuming there are sufficient applicants to disburse such funds.

Recognition of Special Donors to Fund

All scholarships are awarded through the UCICC. Special recognition shall be made at the banquet, in the newsletter, and in correspondence to all applicants whom are recipients of scholarships made possible in part by special donors. Scholarships shall not be made in the name of a particular group, company or person but those donors shall be recognized as outlined. The UCICC president or the committee chair shall make certain that special donors are properly recognized and notified of applicants that benefited from their donation.

Rating of Applicants

In order to be consistent in the manor that the committee rates applicants, the following system shall be used. Each committee member shall rate each of the applicants. No member may rate two applicants with the same score. Should there be 5 applicants each member must arrive at scores that rate them 1 thru 5. The committee members must all agree on the amount of credit each applicant must receive for financial need and grade point scores. All other ratings must be made independently.

Applicant rating system

  1. Financial need.
  2. Grade Point Average: 25%3.5 +
    20% 3.0 + to 3.5
    15% 3.0 and under
    *No more than the past two grade years shall be used for ratings.
  3. How the scholarship will benefit you: 0 to 10 %
  4. Recommendations, Civic and Personnel Achievements:
    0 to 10%
  5. Raters assessment of: presentation of application, assessment of applicants character, consideration for any documented learning impairments, extraordinary achievements, majors, or other factors within the application the rater feels are important:
    0 to 15%

Prior to or at the annual conference the committee shall make its findings. The committee or a representative there of shall submit their findings to UCICC board before the annual conference. To disqualify an applicant it shall take a majority vote of the committee. Reasons for disqualification shall be submitted to the UCICC board at the time the applicant's ratings are submitted. Committee members should refrain from discussion of the applicant's ratings. It is the decision of the UCICC board regarding the number of scholarships to be awarded. The recommendations of the committee shall be kept in confidence till the board has reached a final decision.
